The Jiji Railway Concert will open with the iconic Taiwanese folk train song “Diou-Diou-Tong-A”, setting the tone with strong local cultural flavor. The performance will feature Debussy’s Cello Sonata, seamlessly interwoven with the narrative of The Monkey King Reaches for the Moon, blending the elegant interplay of cello and piano with the dramatic essence of Eastern opera traditions. This fusion will ignite a unique spark between Western classical music and Eastern theatrical storytelling, guiding the audience through a fantastical musical journey.

The program also includes the Peking opera classic “Farewell My Concubine”, reimagined with the graceful resonance of the cello. The powerful vocals of renowned performer Chu Lu-Hao, paired with the emotive strings, will deliver an intensely moving experience. Additionally, the concert features a selection of beloved Western masterpieces, offering a transcendent auditory feast that bridges time, place, and culture.

The grand finale and encore will take place in front of Checheng Railway Station, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in both the tranquil atmosphere of the tunnel—where the silhouettes of Formosan rock macaques roam—and the culturally rich railway scenery of Jiji. Through music as a bridge, the event weaves together the land, nature, and humanity, offering an unforgettable artistic experience that resonates deeply with Taiwan’s local soul.
